G.J. Alabama judge accused of having sex with woman on bench in courtroom MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) Alabama state judicial officials have suspended a district judge accused of having sex with a woman in his courtroom and arranging payment of a debt with marijuana instead of cash. Lamar County District Judge Johnny Langley, 34, was charged in a seven-count complaint issued by the Judicial Inquiry Commission, a state panel that functions like a grand jury in matters of judicial eth- Langley's secretary said yesterday the judge was meeting with his lawyer and not available for comment. Larry Childers, a spokesman for Attorney General Don Siegelman, said Langley will remain suspended pending review of the complaint by the State Court of the Judiciary, which has the power to remove state judges from the bench.

Childers said Langley, elected as a judge in January 1987, was notified Friday of the suspension. The complaint accuses Langley of having sex with a woman "on top of the bench in his courtroom." The judge, who is married, also is accused of threatening the unidentified woman, who co-operated with investigators for the commission. The complaint alleged Langley "took photographs of Mrs. while she was clad only in a partially open flannel shirt" and permitted two men to see the photographs. He later discovered the woman talked to investigators for the Judicial Inquiry Commission and became "belligerent, angry, hostile and abusive towards Mrs.

demanding to know what she told investigators, the complaint said. It accuses Langley of arranging payment of a $100 U.S. personal debt with marijuana instead of cash. The document said Langley regularly purchased marijuana from James Monroe Lawson in amounts of "one to three ounces a month" before becoming a judge. The complaint said Langley lent Lawson $100 cash in 1986 and Langley owed $100 to another man, Jerry Lane McReynolds, for a trolling motor McReynolds sold Langley. The complaint said Langley told Dawson in July "that if Lawson gave McReynolds an ounce of marijuana" Lawson's debt to Langley would be satisfied.

Liberal brass threatened me with arrest: riding chief TORONTO A disgruntled federal Liberal riding association president says party brass threatened him with arrest if he tried to enter party headquarters during a protest yesterday. Dr. Josip Gamulin of Mississauga East, backed by about 100 supporters, spoke outside the federal party's Ontario headquarters during a demonstration to protest "the arrogance" of party officials in "fixing" a recent nomination meeting. No Liberal officials would comment on the allegations, but party worker Steve Davis said he doubted arrest threats were made. Yesterday's protest was in response to a ruling by the party's returning officer to cancel a second nomination vote in Mississauga East after a heated debate on how to conduct the proceedings.

Returning officer Mary McGowan cancelled the scheduled Sept. 11 meeting after supporters of Albina Guarnieri vigorously protested her decision to have all voting completed in one hour. When Guarnieri defeated Liberal backroomer Armindo Silva by 71 votes on May 15, voting took four hours. A bigger turnout is expected Southam News the second time around. Fraud allegations marred the first Mississauga East meeting.

An arbitration board rejected Silva's appeal and was scathing in its condemnation of him for seeking redress when he was at least as guilty as the other party. Silva appealed to the Ontario Liberal executive, which overturned the arbitration board's decision after a nine-minute meeting in which the board didn't hear the evidence. The unprecedented executive decision was even more surprising considering it was common knowledge within the party that Silva had lobbied this spring for the riding's Progressive Conservative nomination and had signed 393 3 people to both Liberal and PC memberships. Gamulin has written letters of appeal to federal leader John Turner, federal president Michel Robert and provincial president Elvio DelZotto, but has so far been rebuffed. Gamulin suggested the support Guarnieri by a large number of Croatians was a factor in her victory being overturned.

"Mr. DelZotto has told Mrs. Guarnieri that if she wanted to detach herself from the Croatians, she might have a better chance," he said. DelZotto couldn't be reached. Police deny Olympic terrorist plot CALGARY (CP) The man who was in charge of Olympic security for the Calgary police department says there is no truth to reports that weapons seized at Windsor, in January were to be used in a terrorist attack at the 1988 Winter Games.

Insp. Gord Shaw was commenting yesterday on a report published in the United States that said 37 weapons seized Jan. 3 were to be used by a Croatian terrorist group in Vancouver to assassinate Eastern Euro- pean athletes at the Calgary Games. In Ottawa, RCMP Cpl. Dave Franklin said Olympic security officials were told of the seizure, but an investigation by police in Windsor turned up nothing to connect the weapons to the Games.

A spokesman for Vancouver's Croatian community expressed disbelief over the reported plot. "I think it is just a joke," said Frank Crnkovic, manager of the Croation Cultural Centre..
