Introduction

Welcome to the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Trophy Guide! Sunbreak is the big expansion for Monter Huner Rise, which expands the game with new monsters, Master Rank, new weapons, armorand more. It also introduces a new type of endgame grind with afflicted monsters, which are very tanky monsters.Unlike Monster Hunter World Iceborneexpansion, Sunbreak does not provide come with a platinum. Instead, the main game itself was blessed (or cursed) with a total of 50 DLC trophies added to the game in 6 individual trophy expansions.

Good news: Most of the trophies are based on the achievements from the first release or Sunbreak, a version before new stuff was added to the game with free content updates. This means you don’t really have to do everything even though the trophies sound like you have to. The first version of Sunbreak, to make it somewhat clear, introduced 16 new monsters relevant for the gold crown trophies. Only those are needed in order to unlock the trophies – every monster added after the game’s original Nintendo Switch release through free updates is not needed. Same goes for some of the quest trophiesand for some of the miscellaneous trophies.

Bad news: In some cases though, you will have tofinish the main game Monster Hunter Rise to 100% as well. Having only the gold crowns added in Sunbreak will not unlock the Sunbreak trophies if you don’t have all the crowns in the main game as well. Same goes for dango recipes and requests. In the main game you could ignore many of the Requests from the other villagers since optional objectives (blue objectives from the handler) were a shortcut for the request trophy. For Sunbreak requests, however, you will have to finish every single request in the game, also those from the main game. So if you skipped them, you will have to go back to them. Fortunately, they aren’t particularly tedious or grindy.

Step 1: Finish the main story quests to remove the cap on your Master Rank

Your first objective should be the main story. It will introduce you to new and old monsters, this time in master rank. As usual in Monster Hunter games make sure to keep your armor somewhat leveled to make progress easier. The most important thing is talking to all the people in Elgado and Kamura. Every time you see a speech bubble above someone or three dots in the map menu, go and talk to the people since they will provide you with new quests, requests etc. Some of the requests are locked behind finishing other requests first, so you should probably keep an eye on them to not get semi-overwhelmed at the end. Also make sure to feed the little snowy cohoot at the top of the new hub after 15 quests.

Finishing main story quests will leave you with master rank 7 and will unlock the cap until level 10, then 30, then 50 etc. You can play through the whole list of main quests in co-op if you wish.

Step 2: Follower Quests and Support Surveys

Some of the followers will sometimes have a purple speech bubble above them. Those are a sign of follower quests. For the Follower Quests / Support Surveys you are not allowed to play in online co-op. Instead, you will be given AI hunting partners to provide assistance For the follower quests the partners are scripted and you will unlock follow-up quests for them after finishing their first ones as well. Finishing multiple quests for them will unlock them as a follower in support surveys.

Support surveys are basically the same as follower quests but this time around you can take up to two of the followers of your choice on a hunt. Make sure to finish all the quests first, though. Some of the quests will automatically mark some of the surveys as finished if you clear them first, so do it in that order to avoid doing the quests twice for no reason. For the followers my personal favorite setup is taking the twins Hinoa and Minato with me and giving both of them Hunting Horns as their weapon. They will provide a massive amount of buffs to you during your hunt, heal you, grant you health regeneration, etc. If you are confident in hunting solo the twins are your best choice since it will make you the main hunter and they will be there for you to keep you alive most of the time.

Step 3: Arena Quests

Do not forget to finish the six master rank arena quests as well. In arena quests you are provided weapons and armor setups by the game and have to hunt the monsters with what you have. Each quest provides you with multiple weapons to choose from but sadly not all of them. So if you are, a single weapon specialist, the arena quests might be somewhat tricky. In most cases you can choose the Bowguns and go for a run-and-gun approach if you have no idea how to play the weapons provided. Bowguns are available in 4 of the 6 arena quests, the other 2 have a bow.

Step 4: Anomaly Quests

Anomaly quests introduce Afflicted Monsters – they are tankier version of most of the monsters in the game with a twist. They are affected by the Qurio, which makes red spots appear on their body which you will have to destroy. Destroying all the spots on a monster’s body will cause an explosion and knock them out, failing to do so will cause an explosion that will damage you if you are too close. After knocking a monster out it will be like a regular monster for a while before it goes back to the red spots again. It is a cycle of destroying the red spots, knocking them out, fighting regularly, destroying the spots, etc. Destroying the red spots is crucial since doing so deals massive damage to the monsters and helps taking down their massive health pool quicker.

The game has a lot of Anomaly Quests, but you will only need to finish the Quests from 1 to 4 Star rating to unlock the corresponding trophy. Everything above can be ignored and the time is better invested in step 5.

Step 5: Anomaly Investigations (Endgame Grind)

Talking to Bahari the Researcher in the endgame will unlock Anomaly Investigations. Anomaly Investigations are quests that will always ask you to kill an afflicted monster. Sometimes the afflicted monsters plus some regular/apex monsters as well. Finishing an anomaly investigation will reward you withAnomaly Coinswhich you can spend in Bahari’s shop as well as provide experience points towards your investigation level.

During the investigation you can also pick up red-glowing items like plants, mushrooms, etc. to get some more XP towards your research level as well. Collecting this stuffand breaking monster parts will randomly award you with new investigations. Each investigation has its own level and finishing and investigation levels it up. The higher the level of an investigation, the stronger the monster and the rewards are better. The monster materials from afflicted monsters are needed for augmentation of your gear.

The higher the level and the more monsters that are in a quest, the more coins the quest will reward. A very low level quest will reward you one coin, a high level quest with 3 monsters, one of them being an Apex and the third one being an Elder Dragon might reward you with 25. The coins are required for trophyMonster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Trophy Guide & Roadmap (4)Bahari’s Hand-Wound Birdiewhich requires spending a total of3000coins in Bahari’s Shop. This is quite a big grind.

Is there another way of earning the coins? Yes – Bahari will have requests for you which will last for 3 to 5 quests asking you to kill a specific monster with a minimum required level. Example: Hunt a Barioth of Level 51 or higher. If the request lasts for 3 quests, you can finish the request 3 times. Finishing 10 requests for Bahari will reward you with a coin bonus. The first 10 quests will reward you with 50 extra coins, after finishing the 10 requests twice it will go up to 100 coins in the third rotation. It goes up the more requests you finish and goes up to at least 200 bonus coins.

Now there is a problem, though: The monster Bahari asked for is random. There is a high possibility he will ask you to hunt monsters which you don’t have an Investigation for or your Investigation is not on the required level. What can you do then? Well once again there is a problem there, you can level up an Investigation by finishing it, but this will not provide progress to the 10 Requests needed for the bonus coins, in some cases you might run out of the 3-5 attempts for the quest before you are able to level it up to the required level. It is a painful grind at the beginning, until you accumulate a collection of different Investigations for a variety of monsters. Even then you can end up with a monster which your Investigation for is painful. Example: Hunt a Level 111 Furious Rajang – your quest for Furious Rajang might be at the required level, but it could have an Apex Rathalos and Kushala Daora (just an example) also in the quest, which would make it harder.

If you really don’t feel like going for the monster Bahari asks you to, simply jump into Arena Quest 6 and have the Furious Rajang there kill you in a few seconds. Do it until you run out of the attempts for the research and a new monster will replace it. Another option is searching for an Investigation you don’t own yourself online and joining there, but it also requires the luck of the monster being available at your level at the exact time you are searching for it. Also playing the Investigation in co-op with a friend will only make the progress longer, since Bahari’s requests are random and you and your friend will require an extraordinary (basically impossible) amount of luck to always end up with the same monster for research.

Long story short – No matter how you approach it, the grind will be a pain. Killing afflicted monsters takes a good amount of time longer than regular monsters and you will end up having to kill about 200 of them, if not more. The best method: a mix of requests for Bahari and when you end up with a monster you don’t want to fight, go for quests that you are comfortable with instead, if it rewards you with many coins. A Quest with 3 monsters that rewards you with about 25+ coins might be worth your time in between research for Bahari if the quest is not extremely long.

Also, you have to SPEND the 3000 coins in the shop, just owning them is not enough.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Trophy Guide & Roadmap (129)
While the crown trophies are usually the most notorious ones in Monster Hunter games, this time around it is not as bad as it sounds. As always crowns are unlocked by finding an especially big or small version of a monster. You do NOT need to get every single crown in the game or the trophy. The trophy is triggered by getting all the main game crowns and only the monsters, which appeared in the first release of Sunbreak. All the monsters added by Version Updates after release are NOT needed for those trophies. The crown rates in Sunbreak have been raised to 6% for a mini crown and 10% for a large crown, making them easier to obtain in general. If not mentioned below, it doesn’t matter which quests you go for as long as the monster is part of the main hunt and not just a random appearance in the quests. Next to the monsters I will mention quests, which guarantee the crowns for those monsters.

Here is a list of all the new monsters you will have to get the crowns for:

  1. Daimyo Hermitaur – 1* MR Quest Supply Line Shell Game – Both Crowns
  2. Blood Orange Bishaten – 2* MR Quest Pinecone Pelting Panic – Large Crown
  3. Aurora Somnacanth
  4. Scorned Magnamalo
  5. Gagangolm – 5* Support Survey Operation Double Garangolm – Both Crowns
  6. Shogun Ceanataur
  7. Magma Almudron – 4* Event Quest Hell’s Jingle Bells – Large Crown
  8. Lunagaron
  9. Astalos – 4* Event Quest Flash of Inspiration – Mini Crown
  10. Espinas
  11. Gore Magala
  12. Seregios
  13. Pyre Rakna-Kadaki
  14. Malzeno
  15. Shagaru Magala
  16. Furious Rajang – 6* Event Quest Revelry of Destruction – Both Crowns

For monsters without a guaranteed crown quest it is best to play quests with multiple monsters if you are hunting for a specific crown, since monsters die faster in multi-monster quests.

Those monster areNOTneeded for the crown trophy:

  1. Gold Rathian
  2. Lucent Nargacuga
  3. Violet Mizutsune
  4. Silver Rathalos
  5. Flaming Espinas
  6. Chaotic Gore Magala
  7. Seething Bazelgeuse
  8. Risen Chameleos
  9. Risen Kushala Daora
  10. Risen Teostra
  11. Gaismagorm (no crowns available)

Every monster added to the game later one will not be necessary either, so only focus on the 16 monsters in the first list. You need to, however, have unlocked all the main game crowns to unlock the Sunbreak Crowns trophy -> This has been tested and confirmed.
