Man Armed With Knife Shows Too Much (2024)

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

House guest no longer welcome

May 10

9:18 a.m. A caller said she was at Food King last night and someone got into her car and stole her medication. The clinic that prescribed them is requiring a police report to refill them.

9:22 a.m. A man in Medanales said his cousin has been at his house for more than a year and he no longer wants him there.

1:33 p.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said a couple is having parties in their apartment and screaming and yelling at each other.

3 p.m. A woman with a shopping cart at Walmart scratched another woman’s car all the way down the side.

3:33 p.m. A Walgreens caller said a man is going car-to-car, trying to sell stuff. The caller thinks the man is selling pills.

3:38 p.m. A Tsigo Bugeh Road caller reported her TV was taken from her bedroom. She thinks she knows who did it.

3:57 p.m. A New Mexico State Police officer stopped a vehicle near Escalante High School in which four drunk people were traveling.

4:07 p.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller reported his 37-year-old son lost a tooth and it won’t stop bleeding.

4:15 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man lying on the side of the road with his pants undone.

5:05 p.m. A caller said a man in a vehicle at Mike’s Mini Mart pointed a gun at her. When a deputy pulled the man over, he discovered the gun was stolen out of Farmington.

5:35 p.m. A call regarding a burglary in Chama was transferred to NMSP because there were no deputies up north.

5:53 p.m. A tribal officer disposed of a tent on Carr Lane that was on the reservation’s side of the road.

6:16 p.m. A unit in Chamita was broken into and grinders were used to gain access.

6:30 p.m. A caller said someone called to tell him a vehicle with a California license plate pulled into their driveway in Chamita and when the man went out to confront the person they tried to run over him.

8:41 p.m. A man was cussing at KFC employees. He refused to leave and seemed to be under the influence.

11:57 p.m. A 32-year-old on Calle Don Diego took too much THC.

Lost woman

May 11

1:58 a.m. A caller on West Solano Lane said she doesn’t know where here is and can’t walk.

1:05 p.m. A Chimayó caller said her catalytic converter was stolen from the BLM parking area in Nambé.

2:18 p.m. A man was at the Española Pathways Shelter, threatening clients.

2:41 p.m. A woman fainted at Walmart and seemed intoxicated.

3:25 p.m. A caller said there’s a physical fight happening next to Speedway.

4:14 p.m. The fire department was paged for a gas leak on Community School Road in Ohkay Owingeh.

5:23 p.m. A caller said their card was stolen and used at the Ohkay Eagle Mart.

5:43 p.m. A 22-year-old man was overdosing on Calle Sandoval. Narcan was administered.

7:24 p.m. A man on a county road in El Rito fell, hit his head and was bleeding.

8:54 p.m. A Coyote caller reported he house across the street is getting broken into.

11:53 p.m. A State Road 76 in Española caller said a female friend stopped by and when he refused to give her more alcohol, she threatened him.

Funny business in the drive-thru

May 12

12:38 a.m. A caller said someone is getting oral sex by the Taco Bell drive-thru and a couple is having sex near the menu. The responding officer noted no one was having relations but the homeless were dispersed.

1:22 a.m. A man at Allsups tried to take Twisted Tea and when an employee stopped him, the man pulled a gun and fired a shot.

10:27 a.m. A guy was passed out in his vehicle at Murphy’s Express and was not waking up. He had a gun between the seats.

4:01 p.m. Two men and a woman were smoking out of a glass pipe on the sidewalk in front of Pizza Hut.

4:07 p.m. A man and woman were arguing at Little Caesar’s and the woman was smacking the man.

5:19 p.m. A Shadow Lane caller reported someone broke into the property and stole a truck.

5:22 p.m. A man staying in a tent was co*cking a gun all night.

7:16 p.m. Three men and a woman were fighting in front of a building on Tsigo Bugeh Road.

7:36 p.m. Three people were told to leave the Ohkay Eagle Mart after the were seen smoking something out of tin foil near the stop sign.

8:51 p.m. A man said people on Roadrunner Lane are lighting fireworks and they are landing on his roof.

9:33 p.m. One man was arrested during a traffic stop on Calle del Rio and North Railroad Avenue.

9:44 p.m. A caller heard multiple shots fired in Alcalde and a woman screaming.

10:42 p.m. A woman who was previously at the Ohkay casino and was irate went to the hotel and pooped on the floor in a room and was being aggressive with her boyfriend.

10:43 p.m. A tribal officer put out a fire at Carr Lane and Starlighter Loop.

11:07 p.m. A caller on a private drive in Abiquiú said people broke down on her property and they are drunk and don’t want to leave. She wants them to leave because she can’t sleep.

11:21 p.m. A caller said his neighbors were fighting at they’re in the parking lot at Tacos y Salsas.

Stolen signs

May 13

6:07 a.m. There was a break-in reported at the Solid Waste facility in Alcalde. A truck with a 400-gallon tank on the back and batteries were missing.

6:12 a.m. A woman at Murphy’s Express had an open wound from being shot with a gun a few days ago. She was taken to the emergency room and it was discovered she did not have a gunshot wound.

8:51 a.m. A “be prepared to stop” sign and a flagger sign were taken from the construction site at the Rio del Oso Bridge.

9:42 a.m. A woman went to the Española Police Department and claimed she was scammed through a cash app.

12:05 p.m. There was a road rage incident at North Paseo de Oñate and Fairview Lane. Both parties were separated and the victim didn’t want to press charges.

2:17 p.m. The Española Valley High School principal called 911 and said a student reported to a counselor that his teacher has been hitting and touching him.

2:37 p.m. A dine and dash was reported at China Kitchen.

3:14 p.m. An Española Middle School student was caught with a marijuana cartridge.

3:46 p.m. A caller reported a male driving erratically near the Champion Express car wash flashed a firearm at them and threatened to kill them.

8:08 p.m. A man said his backpack was stolen from Lowe’s Home Improvement. He left it outside and when he came back, it was gone.

8:48 p.m. A man with a large knife was jumping around the parking lot at Anytime Fitness with his genitals hanging out.

3-day bender

May 14

2:36 a.m. A man at the Rodeway Inn was screaming that he was injured and couldn’t get up.

6:27 a.m. A man was outside Triple S with a towel on his head, yelling at someone and refusing to leave. He said he was just released from the hospital.

8:37 a.m. A woman went into Lotaburger and said she needed help. She was just released from the hospital and doesn’t know how to get back home.

10:04 a.m. An Española Elementary student was selling drugs at school. The child also put a message on Snapchat saying if anyone needed anything, he would take the items to school today.

1:39 p.m. A woman against whom another woman has a restraining order, went to her house and tried to break into a car.

2:49 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who has a history of drug use and is on a three-day bender.

3:10 p.m. An officer was flagged down at Speedway and told a man is passed out in a vehicle and the person saw him inject something.

3:29 p.m. A caller said a man on Lower San Pedro Road was on drugs and hitting stuff at the neighbor’s house.

4:20 p.m. A woman in her 20s was overdosing at Goodwill.

4:32 p.m. A caller requested an officer to help her find her family. She got upset when a dispatcher tried to ask her specific questions.

5:43 p.m. A person was reportedly smoking crack near the dumpster at Dollar Tree in Española.

5:49 p.m. Deputies assisted the NMSP tactical team with a call in Chimayó.

7:02 p.m. A man was refusing to leave H&A Automotive.

7:10 p.m. A man and woman in a truck at Del Norte Credit Union were arguing and the man poked the woman in the chest and she grabbed his arm.

7:33 a.m. A man was caught stealing from Walmart and is refusing to leave.

11:48 a.m. A woman went to La Clinica de Pueblo in Tierra Amarilla with a dog bite and was transferred to the Española Hospital.

12:21 p.m. A house was shot at on North McCurdy Road and the bullet went through the living room, all the way to the back bedroom.

12:25 p.m. A man was at Wells Fargo, harassing customers to buy pottery that he has.

1 p.m. A caller said motorcycles are stopping traffic for lowriders near Walgreens. It was determined that people were doing their own funeral escort because law enforcement wasn’t able to help.

1:06 A vehicle collision involving a motorcycle was reported near Walgreens.

3:05 p.m. A woman’s son told her that someone hacked his old Facebook page and is now using it. The woman called police to report it.

3:16 p.m. A woman and two men were allegedly doing drugs in the Lotaburger parking lot.

6:14 p.m. A caller on Valley Drive and North Riverside Drive reported a man just bashed her window with a skateboard.

6:41 p.m. A 13-year-old girl was damaging property in Velarde after a break-up.

6:57 p.m. A Lyden caller said a neighbor is shooting in his front yard.

7:04 p.m. A 49-year-old man in Hernandez was given something mixed with alcohol and isn’t feeling well.

10:41 p.m. A BOLO was issued for a very drunk woman last seen in Ojo Caliente.

Fake bills

May 16

1:37 a.m. A caller got a text from his mom and sister who are staying at the tent encampment by Valdez Bridge. They said a man is going to bring people to shoot up the encampment.

2:05 a.m. A caller on Fairview Lane saw a man going into people’s yards and taking things. When she saw him, he ran off and she lost sight of him.

6:35 a.m. Someone in a vehicle stole a dirt bike from a home on Ohkay Bupingeh.

8;07 a.m. A man was caught sleeping in the old Home Run Pizza building.

8:34 a.m. A homeless man was camped out on the side of the Rock Christian Fellowship and refusing to leave.

8:37 a.m. A first-grader at Fairview Elementary was having suicidal ideations.

9:20 a.m. A woman in Chimayó said she was walking next to the entrance at her house when the neighbor’s dog ran at her, knocked her down and bit her.

11:03 a.m. A person went to a home on Lower San Pedro Road, opened the gate and looked around.

11:19 a.m. A Calle Redonda caller wants to file a police report because the bed frames she ordered on Amazon were never delivered. An officer told her they don’t do reports for that.

2:56 p.m. CYFD was called to a home on Calle Corral de Piedra. Someone called 911 and when the officer arrived, he found children smoking.

3:11 p.m. A person was attacked by two dogs Corlett Road.

4:17 p.m. A man was hiding in the bushes on East Chamisa Street.

4:26 p.m. A woman called 911 and was very emotional and was yelling and cussing about being kicked out of 420 Emporia. She said she needs an officer.

5:25 p.m. A door on a home on a private drive in Chamita was broken.

8 p.m. A man fled from a traffic stop on North Railroad Avenue and Calle del Rio.

9:41 p.m. Someone passed counterfeit bills at Murphy’s Express and an employee wants to speak with an officer about it.

9:46 p.m. A man had two people at screwdriver-point on Calle Rivera.

10:41 p.m. A woman at Burger King would not let another woman out of her car.

11:11 p.m. Drugs were found on a man that was booked into the Rio Arriba County Detention Center.

11:33 p.m. A woman walked up to a man’s door on Camino Santa Cruz and asked him to charge her phone.
